I have many fond memories of summer trips to sleepy little beach towns, where stopping into an old-fashioned candy shop to get a thick slab of sickeningly sweet fudge was a requisite activity. But while the butter- and sugar-laden version of my childhood makes a great vacation treat, it's not really cut out for everyday consumption.
