The Easiest Way to Make Veggie Roses — One Good Thing

No, it's not a crab apple corer (although we suppose you could use it for that) — it's a radish rose maker from the kitchen tool company J.B. Prince. It's been around for a long time, but you'll probably only find it in restaurant kitchens — until now, that is.

With the rose trend in full swing (apples, avocados, what's next?), we think it's time for the radish rose maker to go mainstream. While it does have a more limited skill set than, say, a good paring knife, if you're a frequent entertainer who likes to surprise and delight your guests, this might just be your next impulse purchase.

Next time you're setting out a plate of crudités or even roasting radishes to serve alongside your favorite fish dish, try giving them the rosette treatment. Not only is it quick to do (it only takes a few seconds per radish), but it will also have your dinner guests thinking you spent much longer preparing the meal than you did.

Of course, you don't have to limit yourself to radishes. Small turnips, beets, new potatoes, and even chunks of your favorite root vegetables can all get the rose treatment.

And it's not completely a unitasker. That triangle-shaped tip on the end of the tool is made for cutting a zig-zag pattern into lemon halves. See, now you really need one.

To Buy: Radish Rose Maker, $17.60 from J.B. Prince
