When Floridians Vacation

This weekend, we took our family to Treasure Island with some friends of ours for a beach weekend.  It was heavenly, and just what I need to get me through the last seven days of school (SEVEN!).

It was a perfect weekend filled with just the right amount of family, friends, kids, adults, beverages, adult beverages, pool floats, boogey boards, staying up late, sleeping in, and even a birthday cake thrown in there for fun.  It just hit the spot.

Sadly, while we were playing in the Gulf on the first day, Chris lost is wedding ring in the water.  He went up to catch a football, and it hit his hand in just the right way that his wedding ring came sailing off and went sinking to the bottom of the sea.  We spent the rest of the trip with our heads down, dragging our feet through the sand, trying to find it, but, alas, we had no luck.  Sad face.

I figured since Chris and I are no longer officially married anymore (that’s how this works, right?), I’d put out my own personal ad.

SWF SEEKING BEACH

I do like pina coladas.  I do not like getting caught in the rain.

Hobbies include:  Floating in the ocean with an inflatable tube, sitting on a beach chair reading a book, and taste testing strawberry pina coladas.

I’m pretty sure that about covers it.

Fortunately, Chris has insisted that this is not how the wedding ring/marriage thing works, and that we are still married.  Good thing, too, cause he’s cute and I’m not aging well.

Treasure Island was the cutest little beach town.  We spent two days on the beach there, and the water was just beautiful.  It was fairly shallow for a long way out, which meant we could all float around out there and the kids could still touch bottom and play all around us.

And that was good because all I did for two days straight was float.  It was heavenly.

We went over one night to eat dinner at St. John’s Pass, which is the strip of boardwalk that has restaurants, shopping, and ice cream shops all up and down the pass out to the ocean.  It was so cute!

After dinner, we headed back to our condo and walked down to the beach to see a spectacular sunset.  Pictures just don’t do sunsets justice, do they?  The kids played in the sand while the adults chatted and finished our drinks.  It was such a relaxing way to end a super fun beach day.

(These sunset pictures are all natural and have no filters or photo editing done… because I don’t know how.)

On our last day there, we spent the morning at the pool letting the kids get their last burst of energy out before we headed home.

Sometimes I think that maybe we shouldn’t go to the beach on vacation. I mean, we do live here, after all. Maybe we should be out exploring other places, seeing new things. But then I have weekends like this and I remember:

There’s really no place better in the whole world than a beach during summertime.
