For the beginning of a series about design ideas worth cribbing from stylish restaurants, what better place to start than Paris, the culinary (and the style) capital of the world? These five eateries are all as different as they are stylish, but you'll find plenty of inspiration here for your apartment (or just your travel plans).
I might be a little obsessed with the design of Lily of the Valley, a tiny cafe and tea room whose ceiling is entirely covered with flowers and plants. While covering your entire ceiling with greenery might not be an option for you, you can still replicate the look with floral prints paired with streamlined modern pieces. I'm imagining a kitchen inspired by this cafe with white cabinets, white marble countertops, delicate floral wallpaper, maybe an exposed brick wall or two, painted white, and a geometric cement tile floor. Someone please build this kitchen and then send me pictures. (Also, if you're not able to make a trip to Paris, there are lots more images on Yellowtrace.)
I fear that this restaurant, called Anahi and brought to my attention by Sarah Anscombe and Yatzer, may be closed, but I had to include it because I am so captivated by its mix of black, white, gold accents, and delicately crumbling tile. ('Delicately crumbling' is a look the French have always done well.) Filling the cracked tiles with gold takes something broken and turns it into something entirely different, and very beautiful.
I think the orange tree at the center of La Mangerie, a tapas restaurant spotted on Flodeau, is fake, but don't let that stop you from bringing a tree (maybe even a citrus tree) into your own home. The mixture of French industrial-style pieces and antiques is charming, too.
This is the Clown Bar, spotted on Wallpaper. I can see this (maybe a bit pared down) inspiring a really delicious kitchen renovation.
Memphis fever is alive and well at PNY, or Paris New York, a Marais burger joint spotted on Moco Loco. I'm digging the combination of modern pieces, soft pastel colors, and of, course, a few plants.
