Author P.C. Cast's Midnight Writing Snack — What Writers Eat at Midnight

When you're burning the midnight oil and your stomach starts to grumble, what should you reach for to fuel you through the night? We decided to go directly to the source. We mean writers, of course. After all, who knows better the pain and pleasure of the midnight munchies than the literary set?

This month, we asked 20 authors, past and present, to share what they snack on in the wee hours.

P.C. Cast is best known for her House of Night series, which she wrote with her daughter Kristin, but the author is branching out on her own with a new YA series, Tales of a New World. The first book, Moon Chosen, is due out in October and will be set in the Pacific Northwest after an ecological apocalypse. There will be gods and goddesses and romances that overcome rivalries.

While you eagerly await the release, find out more about P.C. Cast and what she noshes on when she's dreaming up her fantasy future worlds.

P.C. Cast's Favorite Midnight Snack: Salted Watermelon

This time of year is there anything better than juicy hunks of watermelon? P.C. likes hers sprinkled with salt — and with a side of dark chocolate.

I write at night, so I'm definitely into snacking! My favorite is eating hunks of watermelon (salted, like a proper Okie!) and dark chocolate truffles — the yin and yang of food groups! I also always drink Ecstasy Green tea, which I order from Samovar Tea Lounge in lovely San Francisco.

Is watermelon your midnight snack, too? Do you like it salted or unsalted?
